- Fire / smoke location
- Basement or grade change
- Life hazard
- Access hazards
- Recommendation
This checklist is not an entry authorization.
Building Sides A / B / C / D
- A / Alpha β the side designated by command, commonly the address / front side.
- Facing Alpha from outside: Bravo is left, Charlie is rear, Delta is right.
- Labels stay fixed β as you walk around.
- Never assume Alpha means north.
Gas Meter Readings
- Oxygen in ordinary air β β 20.9%.
- OSHA hazardous atmosphere β below 19.5% or above 23.5% O2 (confined space).
MSA ALTAIR 4XR factory default alarms β NOT verified Triana settings; check your meter:
Any alarm, symptoms, or unknown atmosphere: withdraw and notify command. A non-alarming reading does not establish safety.
- Bump-test β before each day's use.
- Zero β only in known clean air.
What the Numbers Mean
Your meter alarms are set to factory defaults until the chief programs the department's actual settings β treat every alarm as real.
Green = normal Β· Yellow = caution Β· Red = danger
LEL β Combustible Gas (% of Lower Explosive Limit)
O2 β Oxygen (Normal Air Is 20.9%)
CO β Carbon Monoxide, ppm (Colorless, Odorless)
H2S β Hydrogen Sulfide, ppm (Rotten Egg Smell)
When in doubt, back out. Meter readings guide decisions β they don't replace them.
